Chippewa Valley, WI – On February 21st, the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) welcomed over 40 business and community leaders to its annual Chippewa Valley Legislative Speed Dating event at the Eggbreak Café in Lake Hallie. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with and provide input to Wisconsin Legislative Senate and Assembly elected officials.
Modeled after the old-fashioned “Speed Dating” Concept, area legislators spent up to six minutes at tables with area constituents and CEDC economic development stakeholders, listening and updating them on local issues. After six minutes, all elected officials rotated to the following table to hear from the next set of local issues to another group. The legislative “dating” process lasted for an hour and a half.
The CEDC event was privileged to host several key legislators who listened attentively, shared insights, and engaged in open dialogue with attendees. Their participation highlighted the value of collaboration between policymakers and our community. “Beyond the lively format and a delicious breakfast served by the Eggbreak Cafe staff, the true success of the event stemmed from the connections forged—bridging the gap between the business community and both political parties that are decision-makers in Madison.” Stated Charlie Walker, President and CEO of the CEDC.
Some key points discussed during the event include local healthcare, energy infrastructure, modernized TIF Law, County HWY M Bridge funding, create a deal fund, and the Stanley Correctional Institute.
Loana Cook, CEDC’s Advocacy chair, underscored the event’s importance: “Events like these aren’t just about connecting—they ensure that the voices of our local businesses and community members are heard. It’s democracy in action, keeping our region’s priorities front and center.”
Senator Jesse James, Senator Romaine Quinn, Senator Jeff Smith, Representative Rob Summerfield, Representative Dave Armstrong, Representative Karen Hurd, Representative Christian Phelps, Representative Jodi Emerson, and Representative Clint Moses were all in attendance. Also in attendance was a representative from Congressman Derrick Van Orden’s office- Brian Westrate.
