Sconny Company wins 2022 CEDC’S HATCH

As part of Startup Chippewa Valley Week, this year’s pitch event competition, Hatch, went off without a hitch! The CEDC was thrilled to see so many members of the community attend and support a great Chippewa Valley entrepreneurial event. Over 80 people attended the 2022 event which keeps growing, keeping competition steep amongst the participants. There were 11 contestants selected out of nearly 30 entrepreneurs that applied to pitch their business ideas in front of the judges. The HATCH Business PITCH Competition utilized stakeholders from University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, Red Letter Grant, COLAB, Chippewa Valley Technical College, Eau Claire Economic Development Corporation, and St. Croix Business Innovation Center to identify top entrepreneur contestants for the competition. If there were ever a year to shop small for Christmas, 2020 is it. This year has been unprecedented, chaotic, and frightening for Americans in a lot of ways. Good news for all our small businesses in the Chippewa Valley and Wisconsin that offer ecommerce and shipping options – the MainStreetWI.com online retail portal is expanding statewide. The portal, launched in June for participants in WEDC’s Main Street and Connect Communities programs, will be expanded! This campaign will include additional media and social media tools and resources which will be released on November 16th, but in advance of this launch, WEDC is hoping to identify additional businesses that should be added to the site to allow Wisconsinites to shop local when they are shopping online this holiday season. Across the country, state governors and officials are making it known that Manufacturing Month is well underway, even in the face of changes to the celebrations because of COVID-19. The manufacturing industry is a vital part of Wisconsin's economy, employing more than 475,000 Wisconsinites, accounting for 19 percent of gross domestic products, and contributing over $63 billion to Wisconsin's economy. Due to retirements and economic expansion, there will be significant opportunities for employment in Wisconsin’s manufacturing industry, underscoring the need to ensure a robust talent pipeline now and in the years to come. A Maple Syrup Passion – Colfax Teen’s Entrepreneurship

The Wanish family  will tell you that they are proud to produce 100% pure maple syrup near Colfax, Wisconsin. But, they will also tell you that the new budding entrepreneur in the family, with a mind set on success and dedication to harvesting is 16-year-old Will Wanish. Wanish in 2018, started tapping trees and making maple syrup with his uncle, Jon, who has been tapping trees for 20 years. After that season he was hooked and decided to start his own business and Wanish Sugar Bush LLC was born in 2019. Red Letter Grant Application

CCEDC is proud to promote the Red Letter Grant - hurry! Application deadline is Oct 14th! for risk takers, movers + shakers | ELIGIBILITY | Open to women throughout nine counties in Western Wisconsin who want to start a NEW business. We will consider applications from existing women-owned businesses looking to expand, but preference is given to applicants in the start-up phase. Eligible counties include: Buffalo, Clark, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce, Saint Croix and Trempealeau. | HOW MUCH | Four $2,000 grants will be awarded in the spring and the fall ($16,000 annually).
