Time is Running Out; the Annual Meeting is Almost Here!

CEDC embodies Wisconsin's spirit of innovation, devoted to recognizing and celebrating the remarkable achievements of local businesses and entrepreneurs. To actively promote and highlight the collective successes we have accomplished together, fostering a vibrant and prosperous community, CEDC is proud to host its Annual Meeting on August 24th, 2023. Last year CEDC was proud to award Northern Crossarms Co., Inc. as the recipient of the 2022 Business Expansion and Retention (BEAR) Award. Continuously demonstrating their worthiness of this recognition, Northern Crossarms Co., Inc. has shown remarkable ingenuity in addressing the issues associated with wet treated wood decks, such as shrinking, cupping, warping, and twisting during the drying process, leading to uneven gaps and spaces, even in newer decks. A Focused and Energized Team

In Economic Development, everyone knows it’s a team sport. The Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) could not do what we do without our collaborators and supporters. One such supporter and collaborator is the Focus on Energy team. Energy efficiency and energy usage are key variables in any economic development project. Thus, having a group that has expertise in that subject only makes sense. In 2022 CEDC’s Project GBM began their site selection for their U.S. based headquarters. The company was introduced to an idle Frac Sand Facility, one of Western Wisconsin’s largest, located in Chippewa Falls, WI. CEDC worked with the new owners who purchased the 80-acre property by providing due diligence information to potential businesses that wanted to operate within the closed frac sand complex. One particular prospect - Project GBM - [...]

Chippewa & UK Entrepreneurs Work Together

The Chippewa EDC for several years has been wrestling with what to do with the several idle frac sand plants that have ceased operations in the region. Back in the day, the CEDC worked aggressively to recruit several non metallic mining operations bringing over $600 Million and hundreds of jobs to the area. Today the market has changed and the movement away from fossil fuels has opened another opportunity for expanding companies that need rail served sites. One particular idle frac sand location in Chippewa Falls, WI [EOG Facility] was purchased by a private investor. The private investor met with CEDC and the hunt for the next user of the 80 acres began with a collaborative approach. CEDC has a program that works with entrepreneurs that helps them grow. Enhancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem [...]

FDI and the Chippewa Valley

In the past year, the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) has been working with entrepreneurs from the United Kingdom on a development project in the Chippewa Valley. The entrepreneurs have met with CEDC for 26 weeks straight and have even visited the area 3 times. As a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), their business plans are moving along. What is foreign direct investment, and why is it important you ask? In today’s increasingly globalized world, FDI plays a major role in the development of both developed and emerging economies. FDI is an investment made by a company or individual in a company based in another country. It can take many forms, such as the purchase of shares in a foreign company, the establishment of a subsidiary in a foreign country, or the creation of [...]
