CCEDC’s economic development programs prioritize business expansion and retention (BEAR) above all else. Estimates show that approximately 60-80 percent of  all new jobs in a rural community are created through the expansion of the existing businesses that are already here. Chippewa County’s existing employers are the foundation of our local economy and must be supported through a strong BEAR program. The areas existing clusters of precision manufacturers, technology/e-commerce businesses, value-added agriculture/food processors, and healthcare employers are the backbone of our Chippewa economy. Discovering Export Opportunities in Central Europe

The potential exists to increase local companies’ sales through exporting. CCEDC hosted a round table discussion where over a dozen Chippewa Valley companies asked questions about the advantages of exporting their products to Central Europe. Paul Smerda, the Senior Manager at Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) European Trade Representative Firm in Berlin, Germany lead a discussion and answered questions concerning the upcoming WEDC trade venture to Germany in June 2020, market trends, and recommended pro-active sales strategies for doing business in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Scandinavia. Farm Ventilation Business Expands In Chippewa Falls

Chippewa Falls, WI (December 2nd, 2020) – A Chippewa Falls manufacturer is planning a $9 million expansion that will allow the company to double its staff. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for December 14th. VES has completed an agreement to purchase a 12.4 acre parcel in the Lake Wissota Business Park from Chippewa County for $1, said Chippewa County Supervisor, Steve Gerrish. The property is in one of the city’s tax-increment financing districts. VES designs ventilation systems for barns and agricultural buildings, which improves the overall quality of life for animals. Feasibility Business Park Site Visit

Chippewa County is on the cusp of expanding on its recent economic boom, the President/CEO of the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation(CCEDC)-Charlie Walker said. According to Walker, “The county began the process of looking into the feasibility of adding or building another Certified Shovel Ready Business Park because in part of the most recent success of the current Lake Wissota Business Park." Chippewa County officials want to expand on that success by making room for more businesses. As part of that process Chippewa County hired a consultant to look at the feasibility of such a project. 2020 Governor’s Export Achievement Awards

The Governor’s Export Achievement Awards is now accepting nominations!   The award recognizes companies that have contributed to Wisconsin’s exporting strength by achieving extraordinary results in international markets and elevating Wisconsin’s competitiveness in the global economy.   The awards serve a dual purpose: to recognize companies’ good work, and to highlight examples of best practices in export growth so that other Wisconsin companies can learn and apply similar tactics.   Any Wisconsin company or organization successfully engaging in, or assisting in the export of, products or services produced in Wisconsin is eligible to apply. Nominations can be made by an employee of the company or organization, or by an outside person familiar with the company or organization.

Development Toolbox 101/Revolving Loan Funds Lunch & Learn

Tobi LeMahieu, Fund Manager from Regional Business Fund, Inc (RBF)  presented her topic, "Development Toolbox 101/Revolving Loan Funds", where attendees learned about the multiple funding options that are available to small businesses throughout the Chippewa Valley. RBF offers low-interest loans to businesses that expand within the region, diversity the economy, add new technology, revitalize buildings in the region's downtown's, create or retain quality jobs and leverage private capital investment in the region. Attendees were also refreshed on the various types of loans which included revolving loan fund, micro loan fund, growth loan fund and facade loan fund. Missy Hughes, Secretary and CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) visited Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) to receive an update on the organization’s Business Retention, Entrepreneurial Development and Workforce Strategies that are currently being deployed. Every October - Manufacturing Month - Manufacturers across Wisconsin, the Chippewa Valley and next door utilize the month as an opportunity to inspire and recruit the next generation of manufacturers. Xcel Energy’s Certified Shovel-Ready Program Pays Off for Chippewa Falls

German-based global logistics company, DHL Real Estate Solutions, broke ground to construct a $6.8M, 124,000-square-foot warehouse facility project within the Lake Wissota Business Park (LWBP). Xcel Energy launched their multi-state, certified shovel-ready program a year ago and now has 36 certified shovel-ready sites throughout their service territory. The Lake Wissota Business Park in Chippewa County, is a one of six certified shovel-ready Xcel sites in Wisconsin. The certificated shovel-ready program helps to expedite the business location process by making sites like LWBP more attractive to companies like DHL, and other site-selection consultants looking to expand their businesses.
