Cadott High Students Study Chippewa Valley Careers

To increase awareness about the benefits of working in the trades, CEDC continues to collaborate with our local schools. We were pleased to assist Cadott with their Career Expo in early April. Through our many Business Expansion And Retention (BEAR) visits, we know the importance of skilled trades. These jobs vary from mechanics to construction workers, from welders to hairstylists, and are a critical component of our labor force. For years, interest in these skill trade jobs has continued to decline - in part because of the continued push by parents, teachers, and student peer groups to go to a university and get that four year degree. CVIC Board Holds Meeting at CVTC

The Chippewa Valley Innovation Center (CVIC) was established in 1986 by Eau Claire County, the City of Eau Claire, Chippewa County, Eau Claire Area Economic Development Corporation, Chippewa Economic Development Corporation, and Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) as a regional partnership for the purpose of supporting new and emerging entrepreneurial businesses in the Eau Claire area. During their 36 year history, the CVIC has successfully proven to be a productive tool in growing our region's entrepreneurial ecosystem. Their current facility, located on 3132 Louis Avenue in Eau Claire, specializes in assisting manufacturing startups. Generations Academy Students Receive Tour of CVIC

Generations Academy is a non-profit charter school in Eau Claire, WI that specializes in individual development and project-based learning. Recently, the Generations Academy students had a business unit; every child from five to eighteen years old was instructed to come up with a business idea. In addition to the hands-on experience they got from their business projects, two groups of students were also able to see small businesses in action by receiving a tour of the Chippewa Valley Innovation Center (CVIC). Across the country, state governors and officials are making it known that Manufacturing Month is well underway, even in the face of changes to the celebrations because of COVID-19. The manufacturing industry is a vital part of Wisconsin's economy, employing more than 475,000 Wisconsinites, accounting for 19 percent of gross domestic products, and contributing over $63 billion to Wisconsin's economy. Due to retirements and economic expansion, there will be significant opportunities for employment in Wisconsin’s manufacturing industry, underscoring the need to ensure a robust talent pipeline now and in the years to come. Urgent Call for Manufacturers of Medical Equipment from Wisconsin

In fabric shops and on factory floors, the race is on to make and manufacture personal protective equipment (PPE) in the United States, including Wisconsin before supplies run out for those on the front lines of the coronavirus outbreak. Medical staff wear face shields over face masks while treating patients to protect against flying respiratory droplets that can transmit COVID-19, such as from coughs and sneezes but now more than ever protective equipment of all kinds has become hard to find. Healthcare workers have shared that face shields are especially critical because staff now wear them routinely during the race against the war of COVID-19. UW-Stout (MOC) partners with CCEDC & Drylock Technologies to kick-off Lean Certificate Series + SME Bronze

Recently, CCEDC was asked by our economic partner UW-Stout Manufacturing Outreach Center (hereafter MOC), to help promote their Lean Certification Training Program. In today’s workplace CCEDC understands that Lean Certifications can open up many employee opportunities, position the employee for possible promotions, help the employee better understand a production process within a business, and improve organizational operations by eliminating non-value-added steps (wastes) in processes. Drylock Technologies in Eau Claire, Wisconsin continued on their Lean journey by participating with the MOC by hosting this high impact Lean Certification Training Series. CCEDC and CESA 10 host Central Region Business & Industry Luncheon

While Wisconsin continues to experience substantial growth in the manufacturing, construction, healthcare, engineering and many others industries the pace of change continues to accelerate as we prepare tomorrow's workers for their future jobs, some which do not even exist yet. Many middle schools, high schools and post-secondary institutions are quickly adapting their programs and curriculum to best prepare our students for these new advancements and environments that are developing right here in Wisconsin.
