At CEDC, we’re committed to fostering economic vitality in Chippewa County, and we know that education is the backbone of that effort. The numbers tell a compelling story. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS):

  • Individuals with higher education credentials enjoy lower unemployment rates and higher median weekly earnings than those with less education. For example, someone with a bachelor’s degree earns about 65% more per week than a high school graduate.
  • The unemployment rate for high school diploma holders stands at 3.9%, while it drops to just 2.2% for those with a bachelor’s degree, a clear sign of education’s stabilizing power.
  • Looking ahead, jobs requiring postsecondary education are projected to grow nearly twice as fast as those that don’t by 2032, signaling a rising demand for skilled talent.

These statistics underscore what we see every day in the Chippewa Valley: a well-educated workforce isn’t just a nice-to-have habit, it’s essential for businesses to thrive and communities to prosper. Hence why we are thrilled to announce our sponsorship of the Wisconsin Technology Council’s 2025 Eau Claire Luncheon, a dynamic event set to take place on April 15, 2025, at the Chippewa Valley Technical College Energy Education Center in Eau Claire, WI.

This type of gathering shines a spotlight on a vital truth: higher education is a cornerstone of economic development in the Chippewa Valley and beyond. From preparing a skilled workforce to sparking innovation and strengthening ties with industry, our local colleges and universities are fueling growth and opportunity in ways that resonate far beyond the classroom.

A Platform for Insight and Connection

The Wisconsin Technology Council, established in 2001 through bipartisan legislation, has long been a trusted advisor to the Governor and Legislature on science and technology matters. As an independent, non-profit, and non-partisan organization, it brings together a diverse membership—tech companies, venture capital firms, higher education institutions, research organizations, government entities, and legal experts. Its Innovation Network, the membership arm, provides entrepreneurs and employees in high-growth sectors with invaluable educational and networking opportunities. The Eau Claire Luncheon is a prime example of this mission in action, fostering dialogue and collaboration that drives progress and CEDC is proud to collaborate with them.

Voices of Leadership

Attendees will get to experience one of the highlights of the luncheon – a panel discussion featuring prominent higher education leaders from the Chippewa Valley:

  • President Sunem Beaton-Garcia, Chippewa Valley Technical College
  • Chancellor John Chenoweth, UW-River Falls
  • Chancellor Katherine Frank, UW-Stout
  • Chancellor Jim Schmidt, UW-Eau Claire
  • President John Will, Northwood Technical College

These visionaries will explore the evolving partnership between education and economic development, sharing insights on how their institutions are shaping a workforce that’s ready to meet today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities. All of them will also focus on the importance of collaborating with each other and economic development organizations (EDO’s). Attendees can expect a deep dive into workforce development, cutting-edge research, and the importance of partnerships with industry that are strengthening the economic fabric of our region.
