A Focused and Energized Team

In Economic Development, everyone knows it’s a team sport. The Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) could not do what we do without our collaborators and supporters. One such supporter and collaborator is the Focus on Energy team. Energy efficiency and energy usage are key variables in any economic development project. Thus, having a group that has expertise in that subject only makes sense. In 2022 CEDC’s Project GBM began their site selection for their U.S. based headquarters. The company was introduced to an idle Frac Sand Facility, one of Western Wisconsin’s largest, located in Chippewa Falls, WI. CEDC worked with the new owners who purchased the 80-acre property by providing due diligence information to potential businesses that wanted to operate within the closed frac sand complex. One particular prospect - Project GBM - [...]

Chippewa & UK Entrepreneurs Work Together

The Chippewa EDC for several years has been wrestling with what to do with the several idle frac sand plants that have ceased operations in the region. Back in the day, the CEDC worked aggressively to recruit several non metallic mining operations bringing over $600 Million and hundreds of jobs to the area. Today the market has changed and the movement away from fossil fuels has opened another opportunity for expanding companies that need rail served sites. One particular idle frac sand location in Chippewa Falls, WI [EOG Facility] was purchased by a private investor. The private investor met with CEDC and the hunt for the next user of the 80 acres began with a collaborative approach. CEDC has a program that works with entrepreneurs that helps them grow. Enhancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem [...]

Economic development involves an increase in real incomes, higher life expectancy, lower poverty, and a greater provision of basic amenities. A job is the first step toward that goal. Economic Development Week is the time when CEDC organizes the annual open air job fair in part to highlight this fact. On Tuesday, May 9th the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation’s Workforce/Talent Development Committee (CEDC) hosted an Open-Air job fair at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport Parking lot.
