Chippewa & UK Entrepreneurs Work Together

The Chippewa EDC for several years has been wrestling with what to do with the several idle frac sand plants that have ceased operations in the region. Back in the day, the CEDC worked aggressively to recruit several non metallic mining operations bringing over $600 Million and hundreds of jobs to the area. Today the market has changed and the movement away from fossil fuels has opened another opportunity for expanding companies that need rail served sites. One particular idle frac sand location in Chippewa Falls, WI [EOG Facility] was purchased by a private investor. The private investor met with CEDC and the hunt for the next user of the 80 acres began with a collaborative approach. CEDC has a program that works with entrepreneurs that helps them grow. Enhancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem [...]

Chippewa Valley’s Economic Development Week Job Fair

Economic Development Week (May 8th-12th) in the Chippewa Valley is here! During the week CEDC emphasizes the importance of economic development for the Chippewa Valley and uses it to increase understanding of economic development’s contribution to the areas business climate, job retention and growth, the tax base, and our overall quality of life. Economic development involves an increase in real incomes, higher life expectancy, lower poverty, and a greater provision of basic amenities. A job is the first step toward that goal. Economic Development Week is the time when CEDC organizes the annual open air job fair in part to highlight this fact. On Tuesday, May 9th the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation’s Workforce/Talent Development Committee (CEDC) hosted an Open-Air job fair at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport Parking lot. Advocacy Day At The Capitol

Advocacy is the act of promoting or supporting a particular cause or policy. It is a vital aspect of democracy that enables citizens to engage in the political process and hold their elected representatives accountable for their actions. Recently, the CEDC and our Advocacy Committee had the opportunity to visit the Capitol in Madison, WI, to meet with State Senator Jesse James and other members in legislature. Our visit to the Capitol was part of a larger advocacy effort to promote policies that would benefit our community. As a group, we were passionate about improving access to daycare, reducing income inequality, and promoting economic development in our community. Senator James was one of the key decision-makers in the state legislature, and we wanted to discuss these issues with him in person. Before our [...]

FDI and the Chippewa Valley

In the past year, the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) has been working with entrepreneurs from the United Kingdom on a development project in the Chippewa Valley. The entrepreneurs have met with CEDC for 26 weeks straight and have even visited the area 3 times. As a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), their business plans are moving along. What is foreign direct investment, and why is it important you ask? In today’s increasingly globalized world, FDI plays a major role in the development of both developed and emerging economies. FDI is an investment made by a company or individual in a company based in another country. It can take many forms, such as the purchase of shares in a foreign company, the establishment of a subsidiary in a foreign country, or the creation of [...]

Developing the County Line

Exciting things are happening at the Eau Claire and Chippewa County Line! Discussions are being had about the Development of Hwy T near where it meets Hwy 29. Four alternative plans were given to the committee and public to decide which one would make the most effective, efficient, and leave the least amount of disruption to local home and landowners. Expanding lanes, adding round abouts, service roads, and cul de sacs were all topics during the February 7th meeting held at 29 Pines & Lodge. Members of the community sat in discussion with a debrief of the plan that has been chosen, a timeline to expect the completion, and talks of grants to make the funding happen. There was also talk of making it intermodal friendly for transportation services. Planning the infrastructure and [...]

6 More Weeks?!

Groundhog Day is a long standing tradition with German roots where Punxsutawney Phil emerges and if he sees his shadow due to clear skies and sunshine, it is predicted that there will be 6 more weeks of winter. If it is cloudy, and there isn’t a shadow to be found, it is said that we will have an early spring. More often than not, he sees his shadow. This year, Phil again saw his shadow. 6 more weeks of winter it is. For some, that is not the news they want to hear, but for others they embrace the winter. There are so many fun events that are planned in the next couple of weeks to make the colder weather a tad more tolerable. See below for a few events and ideas for [...]
