In fabric shops and on factory floors, the race is on to make and manufacture personal protective equipment (PPE) in the United States, including Wisconsin before supplies run out for those on the front lines of the coronavirus outbreak. Medical staff wear face shields over face masks while treating patients to protect against flying respiratory droplets that can transmit COVID-19, such as from coughs and sneezes but now more than ever protective equipment of all kinds has become hard to find. Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) was proud to collaborate with Chippewa Falls High School on the 6th Annual S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) open house this past week.  S.T.E.A.M aims to spark an interest and lifelong love of the arts and sciences in students from an early age. Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math are similar disciplines in that they all involve creative processes and none uses just one method for inquiry and investigation. Teaching relevant, in-demand skills that will prepare students to become innovators in an ever-evolving world is paramount, not only for the future of the students themselves but for the future of the Chippewa Valley. “Wisconsin’s Hemp Rebirth” Lunch & Learn Series

On March 4th 2020, Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation was proud to host another successful Lunch and Learn event at our sponsor, B&B Electric's, facility. The event discussion was led by Justin Kirking (Business and Cooperative Programs Specialist, USDA Rural Development). Justin spoke to attendees about "Wisconsin's Hemp Rebirth" and was focused on addressing the current challenges and future opportunities that exist through Rural Development Programs in order to assist in financing the processing and other value projects that could potentially be eligible under the Rural Development's financial programs and post-harvest eligible projects as well. Discovering Export Opportunities in Central Europe

The potential exists to increase local companies’ sales through exporting. CCEDC hosted a round table discussion where over a dozen Chippewa Valley companies asked questions about the advantages of exporting their products to Central Europe. Paul Smerda, the Senior Manager at Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) European Trade Representative Firm in Berlin, Germany lead a discussion and answered questions concerning the upcoming WEDC trade venture to Germany in June 2020, market trends, and recommended pro-active sales strategies for doing business in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Scandinavia. Farm Ventilation Business Expands In Chippewa Falls

Chippewa Falls, WI (December 2nd, 2020) – A Chippewa Falls manufacturer is planning a $9 million expansion that will allow the company to double its staff. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for December 14th. VES has completed an agreement to purchase a 12.4 acre parcel in the Lake Wissota Business Park from Chippewa County for $1, said Chippewa County Supervisor, Steve Gerrish. The property is in one of the city’s tax-increment financing districts. VES designs ventilation systems for barns and agricultural buildings, which improves the overall quality of life for animals.
