Taking Advantage of Highschool–Small Business Partnerships

When most people think about economic development and the work that CEDC does, they often picture industrial parks, investment deals, or start-up programs like “BEAR” or “Hatch”. But one of the most important economic engines in our community can be found just down the road at the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District (CFAUSD). That’s why we partner and have CEDC’s talent development programs. We are proud to highlight the ongoing partnership between Chippewa Valley businesses, and the CFAUSD. Under the leadership of Superintendent Jeffrey Holmes, the CFASUD has partnered even closer with CEDC. Holmes implemented strategic programs, valued open dialogue and shared goals, further helping local educators and entrepreneurs to work together to ensure the success of both our students and our economy. Why Schools Matter to Chippewa’s Small Businesses Small businesses [...]

Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) understands the impact that internet connectivity has on our local economy. Effective and affordable broadband access increases the growth potential of our local businesses by helping them access new markets. It is necessary for any precision agriculture operation. It is a catalyst for rural prosperity by connecting rural households, schools, and healthcare with each other. It also is a “must” if small communities are to attract new residents and talent. Today, one thing that was made abundantly clear by the 2020-21 pandemic is that it is even more necessary has because of the huge increase in demand for high-speed internet within the Chippewa Valley as businesses, education, healthcare, and workers transitioned to online services. Chippewa Valley YouthBuild Addresses Labor Shortages and Skills Gaps

In speaking with Chippewa Valley contractors one topic continues to rise to the top…..rising costs of lumber and steel! In recent weeks steel price increases have caused many contractors to rework the material costs on their jobs. Lumber prices, which skyrocketed upward at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 began to come back down around the end of the summer of 2020.  Currently both the lumber and steel prices have taken off again surging 20% to 25%. Experts predict that lumber and steel prices will remain elevated into 2022, but lower than the current extreme rates. According to the Producer Price Index, softwood lumber prices increased 73% while Iron and steel scrap jumped 50% over the past year. Many potential homeowners are rapidly being forced out of the market due to these [...]

Join us at Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) as we celebrate veteran-owned businesses across the country from Monday, November 2nd thru Friday, November 6th! Each year the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) celebrates, connects, and empowers service members, veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and military spouses during National Veterans Small Business Week (NVSBW). Badger Bounce Back Plan to Restart Economy

Gov. Tony Evers announced Wisconsin's "Badger Bounce Back" plan which outlines important criteria for Wisconsin to be able to reopen its economy in phases and includes steps to make sure workers and businesses are prepared to reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. “The Badger Bounce Back plan is informed in part by the President's Guidelines for Opening Up America Again that was issued by the White House on April 16, 2020. Currently, Wisconsin does not meet the criteria the White House established to start reopening our state. The Badger Bounce Back plan takes important steps to get the state of Wisconsin there,” according to a news release from the Governor’s office. The plan would require the following before ending the Safer at Home order: A downward trajectory of influenza-like [...]
