Learning over Lunch: Real Estate Wire Fraud

With a rise in electronic payments across the world, homebuyers and consumers need to be especially careful when working with their lenders and realtors to make sure that they don't release funds or personal information to the wrong person. According to a 2021 American Land Title Association (ALTA) survey on Wire Fraud, over 13,000 homebuyers/potential homebuyers were scammed out of a total of over $200 million. In addition, the losses due to fraud have risen due to the pandemic, from $1.8 billion in 2019 to $3.3 billion in 2020. To help the community better understand wire fraud, title insurance, and the other risks that come with the purchase of property, Knight Barry Title Group asked the CEDC to bring people together at the Willow in Chippewa Falls to learn about how to prevent [...]

Wisconsin Farmers Union Selects Greenfire for Historic Renovation Project

The Wisconsin Farmers Union is renovating a 45,000 square foot historic building that will include their state headquarters on the second floor - and have selected Greenfire Management Services to bring the project to life. The three-story building located in downtown Chippewa Falls will feature retail on the first floor, rentable office space on the second floor and apartments on the third floor. CEDC is so excited to see this building, after years of being vacant, restored and occupied by both residential and business customers. “We selected Greenfire because our values are similar and we like that they are tribally owned,” says Julie Keown-Bomar, Executive Director of Wisconsin Farmers Union. “We look forward to working with their team to revive the historic charm of this space, which we hope will be a new [...]

CEDC Hosts Local Developer Summit

Recently, the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) hosted a Developers Update Summit, where we invited state and regional developers to familiarize themselves with the many opportunities that Chippewa County has to offer. The event also provided a sneak peek to CEDC investors regarding current industrial, commercial, and residential developments that are in-progress or soon to be announced. Besides giving attendees an update on the Chippewa Crossing project, Wangard Partners Inc. utilized the event to stay abreast of other development projects that are happening and provided insight as well as next steps, which the community can take into consideration to leverage its assets. Understanding how the community is investing in its roads, utility and high-speed broadband internet infrastructure, and workforce pipeline development helps site selectors, brokers, and developers with their due diligence in making [...]

Showing Off Some STEAM

I was amazed: I didn’t need a ticket, and I attended a great event! The curtain went up at Chippewa Falls Senior High School (“Chi Hi”) and opened the STEAM production. It was alive with activity as hundreds of students circled the campus, taking the time to visit with a large array of Chippewa Valley businesses and educational institutions. This was STEAM Night, and it was about learning, it was about the opportunities of our area, and it was about “showing off” some STEAM Careers. So, what is STEAM, you ask? Originating from the STEM educational movement started in the early 2000s, STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Its aim is to round out the US educational curriculum to include hands-on activities that help our young future workers develop practical [...]

Water’s Edge Cheese Curds Expands to Downtown Chippewa Falls

This week, Water’s Edge Cheese Curds made their official debut in the city of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin by hosting the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation's (CEDC's) Business Expansion and Retention (BEAR) Visit and a tour of their production facility. CEDC's BEAR Visit program is aimed at recognizing and supporting the accomplishments of our local businesses. We understand that 80 percent of all jobs created in a community are those from existing businesses whom we support and encourage. The BEAR Visits also open up a dialogue for everyone present to engage in a conversation about the supply chain, workforce, the business climate, and other economic issues. Over 12 years ago, Water’s Edge Cheese Curds started in a small building in Jim Falls, Wisconsin. Beginning as a secret recipe in the kitchen of a Northwoods Wisconsin supper [...]

CEDC Investor Hosts BEAR Discussions Listening Session

Alliance Plastics engineers and fabricates custom plastic extrusions for a wide array of applications and industries. Established in 1987, the company continues to experience steady growth and has expanded their operations several times in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. As a major investor and supporter of the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC), they had the opportunity to host the most recent Business Expansion and Retention (BEAR) Discussions Listening Session. One of the most important things that an Economic Development Organization (EDO) can provide is a platform or channel to educate, provide feedback, and help form policy decisions that improve or maintain a healthy business climate. These discussions provide an opportunity for our existing businesses to meet with policymakers about the issues that impact their operations. In the past, BEAR Discussions Listening Sessions helped form and [...]
