The Cobban Bridge Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Marks the Grand Opening of the New Modern Bridge!

The Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) understands that for any community to grow they need modern infrastructure- great roads, rail, and fiber. Recently CEDC worked with the Chippewa County Highway Department to organize and celebrate the completion of a modern bridge across the Chippewa River. Governor Tony Evers presided over the momentous event held on July 25th, 2023. The new Cobban Bridge opened just 6 years after the closure of its predecessor three months ahead of schedule. At a cost of 4.6 million dollars, it was designed to cater to the diverse transportation needs of rural Chippewa County. Built in 1908, the former two-span Pennsylvania through-truss bridge was the oldest of its kind in Wisconsin. The bridge closed in August 2017 after a routine bridge inspection noted some deficiencies and the bridge could [...]

Chippewa Valley’s Economic Development Week Job Fair

Economic Development Week (May 8th-12th) in the Chippewa Valley is here! During the week CEDC emphasizes the importance of economic development for the Chippewa Valley and uses it to increase understanding of economic development’s contribution to the areas business climate, job retention and growth, the tax base, and our overall quality of life. Economic development involves an increase in real incomes, higher life expectancy, lower poverty, and a greater provision of basic amenities. A job is the first step toward that goal. Economic Development Week is the time when CEDC organizes the annual open air job fair in part to highlight this fact. On Tuesday, May 9th the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation’s Workforce/Talent Development Committee (CEDC) hosted an Open-Air job fair at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport Parking lot. With the collaboration from [...]

Chippewa Communities Benefit from Fiber-optic Broadband

Not everyone agrees with the phrase “build it and they will come,” but most people who work to grow the local economy agreed that health care, emergency services, educational institutions, and housing are all essential to attracting businesses and growing jobs in a community. Just as important as sewer, water, and roads-most everyone also agrees that broadband is an essential infrastructure component for economic growth. In other words, building-out broadband does not create certainty in business expansion wins, it is merely necessary to be able to be on the short list for a location. The Chippewa Economic Development Corporation has spent the last several years pushing the importance of broadband expansion in the Chippewa Valley. CEDC has worked with Bloomer Telephone in the past by conducting a business roundtable, hosting elected officials, and [...]

Boots on the Ground! We Fare Well!

As the primary economic development driver of Chippewa County-CEDC has a mission to lead economic growth by: (1) attracting and sustaining industries that support job creation, (2) foster strong businesses through our BEAR Program ensuring our existing companies continue to connect, grow, and prosper here, and (3) continue to create a culture that engages, retains, and expands our local talent/workforce so we are always a prosperous and thriving community. The first strategy (attraction) is a way in which CEDC continues to grow the local tax base and economy. By assisting in attracting new companies to our region- more jobs and capital investments are realized in Chippewa— this helps engage our existing businesses and industries who tend to be a part of the targeted company’s supply chain. In short this strategy helps our local [...]

PMI- Bloomer’s Talent Creator

There are some who believe that within the next 15 years about half of all US Manufacturing firms will close their doors! Currently, worker shortages are empowering existing workers to do some rethinking. They now have the opportunity to reconsider what jobs they want to do, where they want to live,  and what industries they want to work in. Manufacturing appears to be at a disadvantage because many potential workers do not view manufacturing jobs as secure and stable compared to those in other industries. Finally, there is an acceleration to all things digital-Industry 4.0 that has the potential to leave many manufacturers behind because they are slow to invest in technology. To survive manufacturing companies need to move away from being consumers of talented workers and become better creators of manufacturing talent. [...]
