Xcel Energy’s Certified Shovel-Ready Program Pays Off for Chippewa Falls

German-based global logistics company, DHL Real Estate Solutions, broke ground to construct a $6.8M, 124,000-square-foot warehouse facility project within the Lake Wissota Business Park (LWBP). Xcel Energy launched their multi-state, certified shovel-ready program a year ago and now has 36 certified shovel-ready sites throughout their service territory. The Lake Wissota Business Park in Chippewa County, is a one of six certified shovel-ready Xcel sites in Wisconsin. The certificated shovel-ready program helps to expedite the business location process by making sites like LWBP more attractive to companies like DHL, and other site-selection consultants looking to expand their businesses. Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) hosted a dozen business owners and company representatives this afternoon in Stanley, WI at Martino’s Restaurant. Attendees discussed the latest 2019 compensation trends for assisting them in their 2020 forecast and preparation for employee recruitment, retention and budgeting. This was the second series organized by CCEDC as part of their Business, Expansion and Retention Program (BEAR). A primary purpose of the BEAR lunch and learn series is to assist existing businesses by providing them with meaningful information to better compete in the new market place. CCEDC is excited to collaborate with IDC

On 10/15/2019, the Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) hosted the Chippewa Falls Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) board meeting and gave an update on CCEDC’s activities to date. After reviewing the history of CCEDC and its mission- President CEO Charlie Walker, discussed the improvements in CCEDC Business Attraction Program, the success of the Business Expansion and Retention (BEAR Program) and the organizations upcoming HATCH Program. Discussion also centered around home each organization can better support each other. “Collaboration is a necessary component of great economic development programs” stressed Walker "CCEDC is fortunate to have local organizations such as the Chippewa Falls IEDC as a supporter and partner."

Catalytic Combustion Expands in Bloomer, WI

Catalytic Combustion Corporation (CCC) continues to grow in Chippewa County, Wisconsin. The company began construction on an additional 15,000 sq. ft. of production space scheduled for completion by the end of 2019. The Phase III expansion project when completed will provide the company a total of 90,000 sq. ft. of modern heavy industrial fabrication and manufacturing floor space. Chippewa County spends more on drug-related health care than any other County in Wisconsin. The number of meth related cases in Chippewa County has more than tripled over the past four years. In 2014 there were 82 meth cases in the county, 12 of which involved relocating children. In 2018, that number more than tripled. As the number of meth cases in the County rises, leaders are seeing the impacts on not only local government but the families and community as a whole.
