CEDC has long understood that true economic growth comes not just from recruiting new businesses, but from strengthening the companies already embedded in our communities. For over 30 years, CEDC has focused on creating opportunities and bolstering regional economic success by keeping communities at the core of every initiative.

As we reflect on Labor Day—a time to honor the contributions of workers who drive our economy—it’s clear that strong leadership is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. That’s why the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) is proud to partner with the UW-Stout Manufacturing Outreach Center (MOC) on a proven workforce development tool that can elevate local business support: Training Within Industry (TWI). Originally developed during World War II to rapidly train industrial supervisors, TWI has stood the test of time. Its structured, hands-on approach empowers frontline leaders to improve productivity, reduce waste, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Whether you’re managing a team on the shop floor or leading HR initiatives, TWI equips you with tools that work and the MOC will be offering the training at the CEDC office from  September 29 – October 3, 2025 from  5:00 PM – 7:30 PM.

Our area is home to a diverse manufacturing base, healthcare employers, retail operations, and emerging technology companies that form the backbone of our regional economy. But like businesses everywhere, our local companies face persistent challenges: skills gaps, high turnover, training inefficiencies, and pressure to remain competitive. If you’re responsible for guiding people, solving problems, or improving performance, this training is for you. The MOC tailored the session for local HR professionals looking to enhance onboarding and retention strategies,  operations managers seeking to streamline processes and boost morale, and those team leads that are ready to step into greater leadership roles.

Local businesses realize immediate benefits by attending:

  • Accelerated Workforce Development: Companies implementing TWI Job Instruction develop new hires into productive workers faster, with reduced downtime and improved quality.

  • Enhanced Employee Retention: Workers experiencing positive relationships through TWI Job Relations stay longer and contribute more actively.

  • Continuous Improvement: TWI Job Methods fosters a culture where every employee brings practical improvement ideas to work, driving lean practices and efficiency.

CEDC is hosting TWI training sessions and actively partnering with the UW-Stout Manufacturing Outreach Center (MOC) to bring these benefits to businesses of all sizes. Businesses from Lake Hallie’s growing business district to legacy Chippewa Falls manufacturers can participate, gaining tools to compete and thrive. Economic development is about ensuring that existing businesses have what they need to grow, innovate, and compete. By investing in Training Within Industry, the Chippewa Valley can build resilient leadership, equip teams for the future, and create lasting prosperity from the inside out. This Labor Day, let’s honor our workforce not just with celebration, but with investment in their growth!
