The Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) recently hosted its 29th Annual Meeting at the Eau Claire Event District’s High Country facility in Chippewa Falls, WI. This significant event brought together over 400 entrepreneurs, business leaders, and economic development stakeholders from the region, fostering a spirit of collaboration and forward-thinking.
Themed “Reigniting the Flame,” the packed event focused on revitalizing the community’s economic development efforts in the wake of challenges, such as the recent closure of HSHS. Maureen Carlson, chair of the CEDC, emphasized the importance of unity and shared direction in overcoming these obstacles, stating, “The breakfast was a cornerstone of gathering the business community together to IGNITE the direction the community needs to take together to resume its economic development activities to overcome these recent obstacles.”
The meeting featured the presentation of the CEDC Annual Business Awards, celebrating outstanding achievements in entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation:
– CESA 10: Recognized for their youth apprentice partnership.
– Miron Construction: Honored for leadership in the construction industry and their new regional headquarters in Lake Hallie, WI.
– Rural Electric Supply Cooperative (RESCO): Awarded for their significant expansion into the Chippewa Valley with a new facility in Stanley, WI.
– Golden Calf Company: Celebrated for agricultural innovation and their expansion in Bloomer, WI.
– Ron Haas: Received the Leadership Award for his exceptional volunteerism and acts of kindness.
– Jacobson’s Market: Awarded the big B.E.A.R Award for their continuous investments and recent retail expansion in Lafayette, WI.
Kip Ritchie, CEO of Potawatomi Ventures, delivered a keynote address, highlighting the importance of collaboration among economic development organizations. He stressed the value of reassessment during challenging times, sharing that this approach has been beneficial for Potawatomi Ventures. “Taking a moment to step back and adjust during a pause for a perceived setback, usually works out for the best,” Ritchie noted.
CEDC President and CEO, Charlie Walker, reinforced the organization’s long-standing commitment to economic development in the region, stating, “For over 30 years, Chippewa Economic Development Corp. has done just that.” Walker highlighted the importance of continuing this mission for the future generations, ensuring that Chippewa Valley remains a hub for job creation and entrepreneurial growth.
