The Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) is committed to fostering economic growth in Chippewa Valley, and one of our most impactful initiatives is focused on workforce development. For years, we’ve worked closely with area high schools to equip students with the skills needed to thrive in future careers, aligning educational programs with the evolving needs of our local industries.

Recently, CEDC Vice Chair Deb Chilson and President/CEO Charlie Walker attended a school board meeting where the Chippewa Falls School District recognized CEDC’s talent recruitment and workforce preparation efforts by nominating us for the 2024 Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) Business Honor Roll. This annual award celebrates Wisconsin businesses that demonstrate exceptional support for their local schools, and this year, 59 school districts across the state nominated 186 businesses for their contributions.

“At CEDC, we recognize that strong schools are foundational to attracting both new businesses and residents to Chippewa Valley. By investing in high school programs, we not only enhance educational quality but also make our area more appealing for business investment and entrepreneurial ventures.” stressed Deb Chilson “Our talent development programs play a critical role in retaining skilled graduates within our community, helping them find local employment and strengthen the workforce.”

The WASB nomination reflects the mutual commitment of schools and local businesses to create an environment where students, educators, and community members all benefit. By partnering with local schools, CEDC helps school board members, staff, and educators gain valuable insights into high-demand skills and emerging industry trends, which allow them to better prepare students for the workforce. The organization’s Talent Attraction and Retention (TAR)  initiatives  involves facilitating internships, apprenticeships, and job-shadowing opportunities. We connect students with guest speakers, mentors, and career fair events, as well as organizing site visits to local companies and the popular STEAM Night at Chippewa Falls High School. Each of these efforts brings students closer to real-world experiences and introduces them to career paths right here in Chippewa Valley.

By serving as a bridge between schools, businesses, and the community, CEDC helps build a collaborative ecosystem that not only supports education but also drives economic growth across our region.
