Two years ago, CEDC began the task of leading the effort to bring 2024 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days to Chippewa County. This year marks a momentous milestone for Wisconsin Farm Technology Days (FTD), as we celebrate 70 years of showcasing agricultural advancements and fostering community spirit. Since its inception as Farm Progress Days in 1954, FTD has grown into one of the largest and most influential agricultural events in the country, reflecting the dynamic evolution of Wisconsin’s agricultural industry.

FTD has always been at the forefront of agricultural innovation. The event began as a way to highlight the latest in farming technology, techniques, and equipment, providing a platform for farmers to learn, share, and adopt new practices that enhance productivity and sustainability. Over the decades, FTD has remained true to this mission, adapting to the changing needs of the agricultural community while introducing groundbreaking technologies and ideas. The last time Chippewa County hosted the show was in 2004 when CEDC helped provide volunteers for the show. Prior to that, Chippewa County hosted the 1968 show as well at what is now known as the Lake Wissota Business Park.

In August, the FTD celebration will feature numerous highlights, including a special focus on small-scale and affordable technology designed for those managing smaller agricultural operations. Key attractions include drone demonstrations, providing real-time data about crops and soils, and an exciting drone obstacle course open to both adults and youth. This blend of high-tech innovation and hands-on experience embodies the spirit of FTD, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity.

In addition to technological exhibits and food options, FTD will offer a variety of family-friendly activities. Children can enjoy a petting zoo, kiddie tractor pulls, and an adventure passbook, collecting stamps at various sites for a special prize as well as face painting. Meanwhile, adults can explore exhibits, test drive tractors and other equipment, and even take a tethered hot-air balloon ride for a bird’s-eye view of the fest grounds.

The 70th anniversary of Wisconsin Farm Technology Days is not just a celebration of our past but a vision for the future. This celebration would not be possible if it weren’t for the CEDC board members willing to serve on the local FTD executive committee. Thank you CEDC Board Member, Rob Mooney, Nic Alberson, Ryan Hartzell, Cathy Leibke, Ken Pearson, and past CEDC Chair Lisa Bruhn for working the last two years alongside CEDC staff and the Farm Technology Days committee to make this 70th show the best ever!

Join us in celebrating 70 years of Wisconsin Farm Technology Days – a testament to our enduring commitment to agriculture and community.

Here’s to another 70 years of growth, innovation, and community spirit!
